Are you finally ready to learn how to use the potter’s wheel? Join ceramic artist Dakota Brandt in learning the techniques of centering the clay, pulling up the sides, trimming, and finally glazing your own clay pieces. In
between sessions students may continue to work in our pottery place and practice these techniques. Class fee
includes up to 25# of clay per person. Class limited to 3.

Wire Wrapping Jewelry Technique with Molly Wahr

We are excited to offer this jewelry making class at the NCCA-Artsplace! If you are looking for an introduction
to an exquisite jewelry technique then wire wrapping with Molly Wahr is the perfect class for you. Participants
will learn to use copper wire to wrap a cabochon. These wrapped pieces become stunning pendants. Cabochons provided. Bring reading glasses if needed for this detailed work.

Matting and Framing Workshop with Lindsay Isenhart

Ages 16-Adult

Learn the art of mat cutting for your own use or to prepare a gift for a special person. In this workshop you will learn about mat selection, how to properly measure, cut and mount your work, and assemble your frame. Each participant should bring an 8”x10” piece of art or photograph (slightly smaller is fine) to frame. Some materials provided.

Mural Painting with Renae Wallace

March 23 and 30

Class Fee: $35 ($30 Members)

Ages 14-Adult

Working side by side with artist and illustrator Renae Wallace, students will get guided lessons in layout, transfer of design, color theory, and application of paint through blocking in and detail work. Students will work on a group mural project, learning about scale, and painting together using a unified design and color pallet. This public mural project will be on display in the Corridor Gallery at NCCA-Artsplace during the summer of 2017.

Embroidery Hoop Dream Catcher with Kristi Visser

Ages 10-Adult

Dreamcatchers originated with the Ojibwe peoples’ story of Spider Woman, known as Asibikaashi; she took care of the children and the people on the land. Mothers and grandmothers would weave magical webs for the children and it was said that they “caught any harm that might be in the air as a spider’s web catches and holds whatever comes in contact with it.” Students will be making a dreamcatcher using modern day materials, fabric, threads and charms to reflect their own personality.

This class is for the person who wants to learn the basics of throwing a piece of pottery on the wheel or would like to refresh their wheel skills. Learn to center the clay, pull up the walls, trim the bottom and also learn about the glazing process. This class is spread out over two weeks so participants have the opportunity to practice independently in our Pottery Place. One specific goal in the class is to learn to form a well designed handled mug. Class size is limited to 3.

Needle Felting: Bunny with Olivia Johnson

Thursday 6:00-8:00 p.m.

March 16

Class Fee: $30 ($25 Members)

Ages 12-Adult

Gather a few friends or young people together to enjoy an evening trying a fun technique. In this class colorful wool roving and a barbed needle are used to create a charming little bunny. Olivia will gently guide you through this felting process. A take home kit will be provided so you can create a colony of bunnies at home just in time for Easter.

Jewelry Workshop: Metal Cuff Bracelet with Rivets with Casey Bemis

Saturday 10:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m.

March 25

Class Fee: $60 ($55 Members)

Ages 14-Adult

In this workshop students will learn to work with metalsmithing tools to fashion a one-of-a-kind metal cuff bracelet with rivets. Copper, brass and white brass will be used for a variety of colors. Students will add texture to their pieces using a variety of jewelry hammers. Your original designs will be finished with patinas to make them shine. Check out examples of Casey’s work in the NCCA-Artsplace Artist Market. Bring a lunch.

Watercolor Workshop Capturing the Blue Heron with Cheryl Gould

In this class students will use a variety of watercolor techniques to capture the beauty of a blue heron on the water’s edge. Cheryl will provide instruction in the use of watercolors using both traditional and creative techniques. All materials are provided for this introductory, or skill building class. Bring a lunch.

Pushing the Zentangle® Envelope: Beyond Stepouts with Georgianna Klein

Saturday: 12:30 – 3:00 p.m.

April 15

Class Fee: $35 ($30 Members)

Ages 12-Adult

Prerequisite: Zentangle Basics

Using 3Zs (the new triangular tiles) and your art journal, we will explore several new, open ended ways of approaching Zentangle. Reticula and fragments will allow you to play with a structure and a seed pattern. New ways of creating patterns or modifying existing patterns that do not involve creating a stepout will open additional creative doors. Tiles will be provided, but students should bring their Basics kit bag and an art journal.
