Come and join mosaic artist, Deb Emerick, and transform an old window into a colorful work of art using stained glass and other materials. Deb will guide you through the process of designing your window and then implementing your design using glass cutting and mosaic skills. Bring a family member and work on a window together. You may bring your own window or stop in at the NCCA-Artsplace and select your window before the class sessions begin.

These are just a few of the techniques you will explore while learning how to paint a landscape filled will rolled bales of hay and rich colors. Call a friend and join artist Sharon Smithem for a relaxed painting experience. Sharon will guide you through the process of using acrylic painting techniques like blending colors, testing brush strokes, adding highlights and shadows, to create a colorful picture of a lake channel on a 16”x20” canvas. No prior experience is required.

Jewelry Workshop: Metalsmithing with Casey Bemis

Ages 14-Adult

In this workshop students will learn to work with metalsmithing tools to fashion a one-of-a-kind set of earrings and pendant. Copper, brass and white brass will be used for a variety of colors. Students may add texture to their pieces using a variety of jewelry hammers. Your original designs will be finished with patinas. Check out examples of Casey’s work in the NCCA-Artsplace Artist Market. Bring a lunch.

Flintknapping with Scott Fessenden

Ages 12-Adult

Flintknapping is the traditional art of creating arrowheads using antler bone, stone and copper tools. In addition to making several arrowheads and a knife point students will learn about the history of flintknapping and the geology regarding the different types of flint and obsidian along with other survival skill tools. Prepare for a unique class experience. Must register at least one week in advance. Bring a lunch.

Quiltangle with Sandy Dekker

Sandy creates the most amazing hand painted and free stitched quilts that look like intricate Zentangle© designs. Each participant in this class will complete a 16” x 16” quilt piece that could become a wall hanging or pillow top. Participants should be experienced machine quilters and bring their own free motion sewing machine with darning or open toe foot. All other materials provided. Please arrive early to set up your sewing machine.

Dyed Silk Scarves with Kay Brennan

Create your own fashion statement by designing colorful scarves. Each person will be able to dye two pieces using a variety of rich colors. The pieces will be dyed in class and then rinsed at home. This is a great class to take with some friends.

Leather Working: Journal/Tablet Cover

Using at least five basic tools of leather working, create your own leather journal, or use it as a tablet keeper instead! Students will be introduced to leather working using a practice piece first, then planning and implementing their own leather design, tooling and finishing will follow in this two day course. All materials and tools are provided.

Stunning in Silver with Cristine Grimm

Come and join Art Clay instructor, Cristine Grimm, in exploring Art Clay the clay that turns to 99.9% silver when fired. Start out small, making earrings or small pendants with basic techniques that can be used anywhere, anytime, without a kiln. Cost includes silver clay the use of all necessary tools, and all the jewelry findings necessary so you can actually wear your pieces out the door at the end of the evening. This is a great class to take with a group of friends.

Needle Felting with Olivia Johnson: Necklace

This is a new felting idea from Olivia. In this class students will use colorful wool roving and barbed needles to make a collection of round beads. These beads will be strung together to make a very artistic fashion statement for fall. Each participant will receive a kit to continue felting at home.
