NCCA-Artsplace will host the combined 2020/2021 73rd/74th Annual Michigan Water Color Traveling Exhibition, juried by acclaimed artist Carolyn Latanision AWS, NWS. This exhibit is a combination of 2020 and 2021 juried works from multiple talented Michigan water color artists. Visitors will enjoy detailed, layered realism as well as bold, dashing abstracts in this collection of works from MWCS painters all over Michigan.

Juror Carolyn Latanision has been recognized for her artistic efforts with many awards and by achieving Signature Membership in both the American Watercolor Society and the National Watercolor Society along with Signature Membership in numerous other national societies including Rocky Mountain, Hudson Valley, and Pennsylvania Watercolor Societies among others. In 2017, her painting was chosen as the top award-winning painting in the National Watercolor Society International Exhibition.

The Michigan Water Color Society was founded in 1946 by a group of artists who envisioned an organization to promote the awareness of watercolor in Michigan. Their aim was to further watercolor education, maintain high standards artistically, while based on the premise of integrity and professionalism, and to be a forum open to all points of view.

Learn to use colored frit, paint, findings and epoxy to create a brilliant pendant in silver tray bail.

Clay Reptiles

Participants will hand build reptiles with stoneware clay, using textures, slip and more. Student will choose from 3 different high fire glaze colors to have their reptiles finished. Pick up fired projects on or after June 30.

Stained Glass Silhouette
Trace your favorite design onto copper foil, then use precision cutting, and soldering to create a stunning silhouette on fine art glass.

 

 

Wednesday, July 7
Pyrography!
Students transfer unique designs to raw edge wood slices. Using a variety of different hot tips, students will burn texture and depth into their images. Pyrography is a fun and diverse skill used in many woodworking artforms.

Watercolor Silhouette Painting
Using techniques of salt, resist, bleed, and wash, students will work from their favorite silhouette to create a dynamic watercolor painting.

Glass Bead Making
Using Italian glass rods and hot head torches, students will create several unique glass beads.

Eric Michaels is a signature member of the Oil Painters of America, the National Watercolor Society, and the Pastel Society of America.

Perhaps the most distinctive feature of Eric Michaels’ work is its eclectic flavor. The subject matter spans four continents and both hemispheres, and his painting in the Historical and Western genres are collected nationally and internationally.

Michaels has exhibited at the Royal Watercolor Society in London and has been a regular exhibitor in the Artists of America, the Great American Artists and the “Quest for the West” exhibition at the Eiteljorg Museum. His paintings hang in many private, corporate, museum and state collections; including IBM, Honeywell-Sperry Inc., Phillips Petroleum, Puma International, the Albuquerque Museum of Fine Art, Booth Museum of Western Art, the Americana Museum, Haggin Museum, New Mexico State Governor’s Gallery and the Pearce Museum of Western Art.

Like a good house needs a solid foundation, the strength of a painting lies not in the drawing, or the detail, but in the arrangement and execution of its values and masses. Eric will demonstrate how to take any subject and synthesize
it down to its basic value masses. Then, painting those masses accurately, simply and interestingly, we set the stage so that our main focal point has maximum impact. Materials list will be provided at registration.

Students will put into practice the watercolor techniques of
wash, resist, bleed, salt, sponge, splatter and lift to create
a beautiful Luna Hare Solstice painting to celebrate the
upcoming longest day of winter, welcoming longer days
and more sunshine ahead.
