Bruce will instruct participants in the basic skills of chip carving which is a decorative wood technique using knives or chisels to remove small pieces of wood from a flat surface. This traditional carving technique can be used for many things from detailing walking sticks to custom ornaments.

Fan Carving Wood Bird with Bruce Smith

Fan carving is the process of slicing wood into thin
blades (feathers) and then turning and interlocking
them to create a 3-dimensional design from one
piece of wood. Bruce has mastered this bird carving
technique and is anxious to share it with you. Don’t

Chip carving is a simple way to be introduced to the art of wood carving. Make this simple chip carved pattern on prepared trees, the process will spark your interest and also add a personal touch to your Christmas tree or holiday gift giving. All materials and tools provided along with decades of knowledge and skill provided by the woodworking instructors. A great family project too!

Bird House with Decorative Wood Carving – Bruce Smith and Friends September 14, 21

Learn the art of chip carving with master wood carvers. In this class students will learn the basics of chip carving and then move on to creating their own design on a bird house. This is an opportunity that you do not want to miss. All tools and materials are provided in this beginner level class.

Wood Carving – Flower Relief with Bruce Smith

Monday 5:30-7:30 p.m.,  June 8, 15

Ages 12-Adult

Take advantage of years of wood carving experience
to learn a new craft. Class participants will be given
instruction in the use of carving tools and the skill of
creating a flower relief from basswood. The first night
will be spent learning the craft with the second night
fine tuning the technique. This would be a wonderful
project to continue on your own at home after the
class. Call a few friends and take this together. Please
register for this class by Monday, June 1.
