INSPIRE – Classes for Teens January 11 & 18 Glass Mosaic Treasure Box

Thursdays 3:45-5:15 p.m. Ages 12-18
Class Fee $10 These classes are funded in part by grants from the FACF Youth Advisory Committee and Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs Minigrant Program.
These exciting and exploratory art classes are designed to give middle and high school students a chance to learn about art styles and mediums they may not get in a classroom. All materials provided. December 7 & 14 Portfolio Building and January 11 & 18 Glass Mosaic requires students attend both days.
November 9 – Fused Glass Ornaments
Using glass cutting tools, frit, stringers and a wide variety of fusible glass, students will make two of their own unique ornaments to be fired in the kiln. Ornaments will be fired in glass kiln by NCCA-Artsplace staff and picked up the following week.
November 30 – Silk Painting
A great gift idea, or a fashion accessory for fall, students will use resist and dye to paint a long silk scarf. Lines of resist create pools to isolate graphic color application, and help to create bold design.
December 7 & 14 – Portfolio Building
To prepare for college applications, scholarships and exhibits, artists need a good portfolio. Participants need to bring artwork to photograph, a resume and will complete a physical portfolio and a digital portfolio on a flash drive.
January 11 & 18 – Glass Mosaic Treasure Box
Using stained glass on tile, students will create a unique box top mosaic. We’ll take a look at the Italian masters, and learn to cut, piece and grout glass designs. Day one is cutting and applying glass; day two is all about grouting.
