Digital Photography

August 3-5

Monday-Wednesday    1:00 – 2:30 p.m.

Ages 9-12

Experienced photographers will guide students through all of the workings of a digital camera and then take students outdoors to try some of the different camera settings. The second day they will focus on macro settings and the rule of thirds. The final day will be spent in a class critique of their work and learning how to mat their best photograph.

African Safari

August 3-6

Monday-Thursday    10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.

Ages 6-8

Get your bags packed and your passport ready. We’re going on an African safari!  Prepare to use clay making skills to create a relief tile of your favorite African animal.  Create a symmetrical mask with unusual painting techniques. Use paint to capture a parade of animal silhouettes in front of a blazing sunset and test your sculpting skills in constructing a giraffe. Just follow the beat of the drum to the NCCA-Artsplace for a great summer adventure!

Like an Artist – The World of Painting and Printmaking

Are you ready to take your artwork to the next level?  Get ready to develop and improve your artistic skills while exploring the fascinating world of painting and printmaking.  Learn to use acrylic paint on a real canvas, apply ink on a linoleum carving and foam to make a reduction print, test the possibilities of alcohol ink, and use interesting watercolor techniques to design a landscape.

Calling all creative minds. Prepare to leave your flat, two dimensional world behind. The third dimension is calling your name. Get ready to use wire to form expressive people, create abstract art from your grandma’s stockings, make a village on the edge of a clay pot and use wood to make an interesting form. Don’t be afraid. The third dimension is amazing!

Windows and roof lines, doors and towers, arches and zigzags. Come and investigate the interesting world of buildings. Learn to observe and identify architecture styles in your own community and then use interesting materials to create a cardboard and oil pastel cityscape, a clay castle, a drawing with metallic markers in front of a watercolor sky and more.

Summer is the perfect time to get smart about art. In this class we will learn about unusual artists like George Rodrigue and his fascination with blue dogs, Jasper Johns and his unique American flag paintings, Pablo Picasso and his colorful, scrambled faces, and Wayne Thiebaud and his delicious desserts. Get ready to use clay, paint, cardboard, and more to create artwork in the style of these interesting artists.
