You’ll find a great example of reduction block printing in “Feathered Friends” block print by Cheryl Gould. Chryl will guide students through a two-step block print, with rainbow inking rolls to include more color variation. Participants should come prepared with an idea, sketches or reference pictures for their block. Possibilities might include butterflies, leaves, birds, flowers, coffee cups, quilt blocks, but anything that could be fit into a square would work. Designs will be carved into a 4” by 4” block, and printed individually and grouped into 4 block by 4 block designs. Participants can also collaborate with each other! The first day introduce reduction block printing, then participants will draw and carve the block, grid up the paper, and complete the first layer of printing. Day two will focus on the reduction carving and the second layer of printing. Bring a sack lunch.
