Japanese Notan

Notan is a Japanese term meaning dark/light. Students will first create a brightly painted background. Next, they will cut shapes from a black square and flip the pieces off the edge. Call to register.

Painted Paper Cuttings
Tues. January 6 3:30 – 5:15 p.m.
Ages 7-12 $12
Using vibrant watercolors our students will paint both a background and then a top layer from special papers. The top layer will be folded and then cut to create an exquisite shape. They will be layered and then framed in a mat. Call to register.

Winter Cardboard Relief
Sat. January 3 12:00 – 2:00 p.m.
Ages 7-12 $12
Sometimes art can be created from simple, found materials. In this sweet winter project students will use cardboard scraps to develop a winter landscape. The pieces will be painted a single color and then sponged with white to bring on the snow. These winter reliefs can be mounted on a piece of matboard to finish it off. Call to register.

Natural Weaving
Tues. December 30 3:00 – 5:00 p.m.
Ages 8-15 $12
We found some wood in the basement that was just asking to be a weaving base. Students in this class will use string, yarn, and natural materials to create this artsy textile. Call to register.

Amazing Guitar
Tues. December 30 12:00 – 2:00 p.m.
Ages 7-12 $12
Starting with the element of shape our students will add bright papers, metal repousse embellishments and cardboard accent pieces. While it will not play actual notes it will be music for your eyes. Call to register.

Catching Snowflakes
Sat. December 27 12:30-2:00 p.m.
Ages 7-12 $12
An unusual portrait or a new Olympic sport? Using markers and watercolor paint our artists will design a portrait of themselves catching snowflakes. Call to register.

School of Designer Fish
Thurs. December 18 3:30 – 5:15 p.m.
Ages 7-12 $12
Deep in the ocean you will discover a school of very stylish fish. Our young artists will create their own designer fish using artsy papers. Call to register.
