Create a book out of stoneware clay, laying a design into it using a carved printmaking block! Day one will be designing and “printing” the clay slabs, day two will be glazing, and day 3 will be folding signatures and coptic binding your fine art book together! En plein air is a French expression meaning “in the open air”, and refers to the act of painting outdoors with the artist’s subject in full view. This practice of painting is similar in the practice of yoga or meditation, in that the act itself connects mind/body/nature. Being present, observing, and translating what we see with brush strokes and simple detail make us stronger artists with every attempt.

Unleash your inner Monet and learn how to create a beautiful impressionist-style 8×10-ish painting using wool fiber and wet felting techniques! You will be using a photo of your choice for inspiration to create a simple flower design, floral still life, landscape or seascape scene. The instructor will demonstrate the basic method of how to prepare the wool base, discuss techniques for adding colors represented in your photo, show you how to create different flower & leaf shapes, and illustrate ways to enhance your layout by adding small amounts of fabric, silk, wool nepps, art yarns and other fun embellishments. Once your layout is complete you will add soapy water and finish the process using wet felting techniques. At the end of the workshop you will leave with a beautiful textural piece that can be further embellished with hand embroidery, machine stitching, beading and/or other decorations (optional). Your finished piece can be mounted on canvas, framed or made into a decorative accessory. Note: This class requires the handling of merino wool and use of mild soap (Dawn & Olive Oil). Not recommended for persons with highly sensitive skin. Some rolling of felt is required. Please bring: 2 old bath towels, small pail for water, small pair of sharp scissors and a photo for inspiration (optional). Students will take a short break for lunch.

Use fuse-able glass, frit, stringers and glass paint to create a bold sunflower or bright poppy, or darling daisies! Finished glass pieces can be fused with hooks for hanging, or attached to a metal rod to use as a garden ornament.

Four days of learning: Day 1 learn about stained glass patterns, how to find them, use them and start picking glass. Day 2 – cutting! Learn to cut glass using a variety of class cutters and grinders. You’ll be cutting out your glass pattern. Day 3 is about finish fitting, and taping. Day 4 – finish taping, then learn to solder! Finally, add a patina, and polish up your stained glass with wax to show it off! Avg. 80 sq. inches. Limit 6 students.
