Create a book out of stoneware clay, laying a design into it using a carved printmaking block! Day one will be designing and “printing” the clay slabs, day two will be glazing, and day 3 will be folding signatures and coptic binding your fine art book together! Based on the artwork of Alaskan artist Nakultoruq Mighell Silver Hand.

En plein air is a French expression meaning “in the open air”, and refers to the act of painting outdoors with the artist’s subject in full view. This practice of painting is similar in the practice of yoga or meditation, in that the act itself connects mind/body/nature. Being present, observing, and translating what we see with brush strokes and simple detail make us stronger artists with every attempt.

Learn the lapidary arts through slab cutting, shaping and polishing stone to create a beautiful ring. Medium soft stone will be provided for this introductory class. We will be using a flat lap, cab king, slab saw, and a variety of grinders in this process.
