Art of the Bonsai Pot

Ages 16+ $60 ($55 Members)
Use traditional shapes, proportions, and learn about the proper drainage and wiring holes needed to create your own Bonsai pot! Use pinch, coil and slab techniques with high fire clay to complete one miniature bonsai and one medium bonsai pot. Have your pots ready for exciting Bonsai classes to come in March and April led by members of the West Michigan Bonsai Club!

Use hollow and solid extruded clay along with slab, pinch and texture methods to create vases or oil bottles. Day one is building with the second day focusing on glazing after a drying and firing gap. Pieces can be picked up on or after August 25.

In this class students will use a variety of clay building techniques to form a turtle box with the shell as the cover then glaze with a variety of bold colors.

Starting with extruded hollow clay and a pattern, students will create whimsical glazed clay cell phone amplifier. Kiln fired project ready to pick up the following week.

In this class students will use clay techniques to form a colorful paintbrush. This piece will be perfect to hang on a wall as inspiration.

Clay Handbuilding with Lesa VanSingel

Thursdays, February 21, 28, March 7 from 6:00-8:00 p.m.

Class Fee: $70($65 Members)

Ages: 16-Adult

If you are looking to play with clay in a fun, creative atmosphere come and join artist, Lesa VanSingel. Explore the basic handbuilding techniques of coiling, slumping and pinching. On the third evening the pieces will be glazed. Bring a friend that also likes to “get muddy”.

Class Fee: $20 per pair ($5 each additional child) Ages 5-100
Another choice for an adult/child event. Select a fun
theme and build a clay tile. Together we will learn
about joining clay pieces, adding texture, and applying
glaze to a rolled slab. Tiles will be ready for pick up by
February 24.

Learn basic handbuilding techniques and then have fun building a variety of pieces. Groups of 5 or more please call ahead. Finished pieces will be available for pick up after May 8.

Get muddy at NCCA-Artsplace! Learn how to hand build, connect, roll a slab, and throw on the pottery wheel!
Learn several different finishing techniques including glazing, staining and painting. All work goes home the final day of class. Three different sessions to choose from!
