Explore the world of woodworking with some great examples by regional woodworkers including John Marquardt, Ray Frank, Darrell DeRuiter, Ron Campbell, Ken Brink, Jeff Grill, Carl Straahthof, Zack Moore, Rod Burkle, Austin Nicholas, Bruce Dannenhauer, among others.

Wood turning, bas relief carving, burning, inlay, engraving, joining, furniture, jewelry, bowls, wall art and so much more will be on display.

Stop by to meet the artists on Saturday, May 20, ask questions and enjoy live demonstrations! Light refreshments provided for this free public event!

Bruce Dannenhauer of the Grand River Wood Turners Guild will be giving free live wood turning demonstrations between 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m.

Construct a relief sculpture using a variety of materials including wood, metals and found objects to create a fun sculpture with a monochrome finish inspired by the art of Louise Nevelson.

A great introduction to wood carving! Learn to handle and care for basic carving tools. Use a pattern to transfer and complete a chip carved design on a wooden pencil box.

Learn to use colored frit, paint, findings and epoxy to create a brilliant pendant in silver tray bail.

Clay Reptiles

Participants will hand build reptiles with stoneware clay, using textures, slip and more. Student will choose from 3 different high fire glaze colors to have their reptiles finished. Pick up fired projects on or after June 30.

Stained Glass Silhouette
Trace your favorite design onto copper foil, then use precision cutting, and soldering to create a stunning silhouette on fine art glass.

 

 

Wednesday, July 7
Pyrography!
Students transfer unique designs to raw edge wood slices. Using a variety of different hot tips, students will burn texture and depth into their images. Pyrography is a fun and diverse skill used in many woodworking artforms.

 

 

Wednesday, July 21
Watercolor Silhouette Painting
Using techniques of salt, resist, bleed, and wash, students will work from their favorite silhouette to create a dynamic watercolor painting.

Glass Bead Making
Using Italian glass rods and hot head torches, students will create several unique glass beads.

INSPIRE Art for TEENS: Wood Carving with Bruce Smith

Bruce will instruct participants in the basic skills of chip carving which is a decorative wood technique using knives or chisels to remove small pieces of wood from a flat surface. This traditional carving technique can be used for many things from detailing walking sticks to custom ornaments.

The Ultimate Summer Art Challenge

Monday, July 9 – Thursday, July 12,

10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.

Ages 9-12.

This class is for the student that is not afraid of a challenge. Each day students will be given a new task and a choice of materials. Perhaps it will be a building constructed from cardboard and found objects or a sculpture from wood and wire. Keep your creative brain charged over the summer and accept this challenge.

Chip carving is a simple way to be introduced to the art of wood carving. Make this simple chip carved pattern on prepared trees, the process will spark your interest and also add a personal touch to your Christmas tree or holiday gift giving. All materials and tools provided along with decades of knowledge and skill provided by the woodworking instructors. A great family project too!

Learn the art of chip carving with master wood carvers. In this class students will learn the basics of chip carving and then move on to creating their own design on a bird house. This is an opportunity that you do not want to miss. All materials provided.
